Torture in Central Asia: A New Documentary
Freedom House Europe holds roundtable in Bishkek
On February 6, 2009, Freedom House Europe held an event in Bishkek to present the results of its two-year projects on combating torture in Central Asia. The event was held jointly with Voice of Freedom, FHE's main partner in Kyrgyzstan and the leader of the NGO coalition in Kyrgyzstan to combat torture and Media Net (Kazakhstan), the coordinator of the media component of the project. The event, in addition to the discussion of the results, featured a screening of the documentary film tracing fates of three victims of torture. The film was produced during the project.
Videos and Presentations from the "Energy Security in Europe" Roundtable Series
In September 2008, Freedom House Europe organized a series of roundtable discussions on energy security to address these strategic issues. Over the course of the month, three events were held in Budapest with the participation of international experts and policymakers and focusing on various aspects of energy security, including economic, geopolitical, and environmental considerations. The speakers, among others, include Pierre Noel from the European Council on Foreign Relations, Keth C. Smith for the Center for Strategic and International Studies, Richard Youngs from FRIDE, Alan Riley from City University of London, Kitty Nyitrai from the European Commission, Andreas Goldthau from Central European University, and Christopher Walker from Freedom House
